*Tap Tap* Is this thing on?

Yesterday while on Twitter, I read a really dumb comment reacting to the passing of DJ AM. It said, “So you still wanna be a celeb? F**k nah!” As though being in the public eye is a death wish nowadays. Sure 2009 has seen ALOT of deaths in the Hollywood-set, but people die everyday. Alot of people die everyday. It has absolutely nothing to do with WHO you are….but I do think that just maybe God is trying to get our attention by taking alot of those who are more well-known figures. Hmmmm….

I look at it like this. A parent can calmly tell a child to stop acting up and warn them of consequences all day. The child could simply continue to act up because he knew the result of his foolishness would be mild. At most, he’d get another “talking to.” But let that parent pop the child upside the head one day for misbehavior….it would grab the kid’s attention for sure, because it would catch them off guard. It’d hurt. It would be unexpected.

Same thing with alot of these “famous” deaths.

People are so detached from The Father (I get far away, too) that it seems like there’s no point in thinking about our eternities. “I wanna have fun TODAY! I’m living for the moment & whatever’s going on in this moment is all that matters!” No so. When people are suddenly and unexpectedly taken away, I’m always reminded of that. This isn’t gonna be an “End Of Days” speech…just some thoughts on my own mortality. Life is beautiful and it’s meant to be enjoyed, experienced, & loved. But never ever forget who put you here and that we aren’t here forever. With all the “things” there are to gain in life, don’t lose sight of the one things that comes after this life. I’m listening, God. Thanks for the reminder :)

Wipe Me Down

OMG, I think I just had a moment! These Bebe Croc Booties are siiiiiickening! I already love booties, but these babies have a 6″ heel and 1.5″ platform. Meaning the ass-n-legs will pop like nobody’s biz. These’ll look good with jeans, a mini dress, or….whatever :) I.Will.Be.Copping. Annnd I just got another Bebe rewards offer, too?! (cause I buy a little often) Oh yeah, mine mine mine!

Male Skinnies-2 rock 0r not 2 rock

Seems like everyday, at least once, I hear people hating on this skinny-jeans-for-guys thing. I mean, really going in about it. Now I know every person has their own idea of what’s fashionable, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen or heard people so candidly voice opinions about male clothing (lol). This isn’t even a new trend, but I guess us being in the “hip hop age” and all, and with young black dudes are sporting it…it’s a topic.

I, for one, am a big fan of a man in a straight leg/fitted jean. When I first moved to Atlanta almost 3 years ago, I worked at Express and we sold them then. Most guys I showed them to were like, “Nah, I can’t rock those!” and then some who were picking them out didn’t NEED to rock ‘em (PSA, skinnies are usually not meant for those who are, umm, skinny). I tried to convince the guys that I thought it was sexy. Only worked on a few. But 3 years later, the trend is catching on.

What’s the big deal? Nigs be saying the jeans look “gay”, they’re “girl jeans,” they d**k don’t fit (nigga pleeeease!). I’m talking straight legs. I told someone on Twitter today that ever since my first celeb crush, Lenny Kravitz, came on the scene- I dug the skinny jeans. I guess it’s the rock starish-ness of it all.

Now I aint talking about LEGGINGS on dudes, that’s a lil different. Like these are too much…

Celebrate Aaliyah Haughton

aaliyah_2003

I still remember exactly where I was, what I was doing, and how I found out Aaliyah had passed. I was soooo sad and I couldn’t understand why. I mean, I didn’t know her. But for some reason, I felt a profound sense of loss. She was definitely a person who I was a big fan of and one whose style I admired. Me being a tomboy, I loved her understated sexiness, her smooth delivery, her sweet voice. She was simply wonderful to me. :)

I have a lot of favorites by Aaliyah, but here is one of them. R.I.P. Aaliyah Dana Haughton.

Concepts

I’m getting ready to do a photo shoot soon & this time I’m taking charge of concept, styling, choosing the makeup artist, locale, etc. I have some great ideas and along with the photographer, Mike Cooke, we’re gonna rip this ish. I don’t wanna put too much out there (Lord knows I’ll say what I want to do, and I’ll see it done next week!), but I will say I need these slick babes in my life to make one of the shots come to life…

These are Yves Saint Laurent Tributes, though, so I won’t be coppin’ those. Any ideas where I can get somthing similar not in the $1000 neighborhood? Disclaimer: Don’t hit me with no Dots, Charlotte Russe or Wet Seal solutions. Homey don’t play that! :)

“So Good” by Day 26

Here’s the new single by Day 26 “So Good.” This is not only one of my favorite songs on their album Forever In A Day, but it was written and produced by my real homies. Congrats to Kage, Aion & Bryan! And thumbs up to Day 26 for such a sexy lil video. Support this one, folks!

Super ThrowBack! LTD/Jeffrey Osborne

I heard this song on the radio today and it had me cheesing. It’s one my parents’ band used to do, and years later when I was in a band in Miami, we did the song, too. The band members, who were much older than me, used to be like, “Whatchu know about LTD?!” Nothing really…I just know when a song feels good to me. The lyrics also mean something to me at the moment :) Soooo, alot of yall may not know it, but if you do, hum along with me. It’s “Love Ballad” by LTD.
