So Hydroxycut’a kill ya, huh?

I forgot to take my ‘medicine’!” and proceed to pull out my caffeine-free Hydroxycut rapid releases, and my homeboy was like, “Don’t take that s**t! I just saw that they’re recalling it!” “Yeaaah right, dude! Like millions of people take it.” That was my attitude. I asked him why there was a recall and what was happening to make them be recalled. He didn’t know, and me being the type who needs to know for myself why things are what they are, I popped ‘em anyway and ate my cake in peace.
Later that night when I was in the car with my homegirl, I was about to pop some more and she gave me the same reaction I’d gotten earlier. She snatched the bottle out my hands and said she was gonna throw them away. I asked her the same question I’d asked him, what’s wrong with Hydroxycut? She said people were getting sick, but she wasn’t exactly sure what the whole deal was. I rolled my eyes and snatched my “medicine” (lol) back. I wasn’t tossing my hard earned money, or my nearly-cut stomach, down the tube without some cold, hard facts.
Well, Sunday morning I got my cold hard facts. My homeboy sent me an email link and lo and behold-the FDA was enforcing a recall on 14 Hydroxycut products, including mine.
The FDA’s food and nutrition division said the agency has received 23 reports of liver problems, including the death of a 19-year-old boy living in the Southwest. Other patients experienced symptoms ranging from jaundice, or yellowing of the skin, to liver failure. One received a transplant and another was placed on a list to await a new liver. The patients were otherwise healthy and their symptoms began after they started using Hydroxycut, regulators said. (info from Yahoo News)
Now granted the cases are few, and Hydroxycut apparently sold 9 million boxes last year (!!!) I had to be reasonable and think, “better safe than sorry, buuuut dammit, man!” I’m still thinking money wasted at this point, more so than my health (lol). Wasting money IS a hazard to my health! So I immediately called GNC to ask if I could exchange those little death bombs for something else without a receipt, and to my surprise, they said yes! Cool. So I just came home from GNC and am now the proud owner of AlphaLean- which is an Omega Fatty Acids blend and GNC’s Thermo Burst. Some would say, “Why not just take nothing?” I say SHUT UP! Lol…I will never be a salad, Lean Cuisine, 1000 calorie per day chick. I LOOOOOOOVE food and love to eat. Good thing I also love to workout so it balances, but since I’m not 16 anymore, I have to do a lil extra, so these supplements are part of that. I know fish oils are safe, so let’s hope this Thermo Blast aint in the papers soon
