Destiny’s Child Doing “Let’s Wait Awhile”

Posting the Janet videos yesterday made me think about this performance by Destiny’s Child singing another one of my favorite songs.  This was on MTV Icon some years ago and it was one of those shows honoring Janet Jackson.  I remember thinking that DC was the best thing smokin’ at this time (smile).

And from that same show, Pink, Usher and Mya danced to some Miss Jackson hits as well (with the beautiful Aaliyah introducing them…)

Needless to say, I was glued to the tv the whole show!

This never gets old

Most of the music I play in my car is about 5-10 years old.  I will occasionally make mix-CDs of new songs I like, but rarely do I just rock new albums from top to bottom anymore.  One CD that’s been in rotation for years now is Janet Jackson’s Design of a Decade.  It’s a compilation of some of her best stuff from 1986-1996 and it never gets old to me.  I still love me some Janet.

These two songs are are two of my all time favorites, and the 2nd video is probably in my top 5 favorite videos.   Here’s “Come Back To Me” (‘89) and “Pleasure Principle” (‘86)  for your enjoyment.  Or simply for my enjoyment   However you want it!

A-Town Down!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!   I got back from Indiana last night, and uhhhh….first the positives.  Seeing my family was great!  My grandmother’s in great health, my niece (my niece is a little amazon!!!) and nephew were just as cute, smart, and GREAT as ever, and my moms and sister were doing well, too.  I stayed in the house for the whole 3 days basically, except a few trips to random stores.  The weather had warmed up from the 1-10 degree mess they were having right before I came and there was no snow or ice.  It was just really nice.  Seeing them, that is.  Now where I’m from-Anderson, IN…different story.  Man, that place has gone DOWN!  I know I’m from there, I know my people still live there, and I hope to not offend anyone, but hell, I’m merely verbalizing what I saw.  So many of the houses are unliveable and/or vacant, a lot of the businesses have gone OUT of business.  And I could barely go to sleep one night because every 5 minutes someone was driving a loud ass car past the house with the trunk rattling.  People still do that?!  I thought that was more of the “Menace To Society” era…or maybe I’m just out of touch?  And the people…the people.  Let’s just say I could tell I wasn’t in Georgia.  Or Florida.  Or New York, for that matter.  I saw like 2% “us” at all the stores I went to.  Where were they?  I felt like I was in a twilight zone.  My Grandma and I went to Target and I was looking for a camera case.  Swear to Jesus, the lil dude who worked in that section asked everybody around me “Can I help you find anything?” and walked past me at least 4 times without saying anything.  I wasn’t even offended, I just thought, “this ish is soooo lame!”

Then, on Christmas Eve, my sister got into a fight at a store.  Not an arguement, but a physical fist fight with…uh, not “one of us” (lol)…over a parking spot.  As the story goes, my sister and her boyfriend were in their car waiting for this car to pull out so they could get that parking spot.  As the car was pulling out, another car (the other lady’s car) started coming down the aisle the wrong way to get the spot as well.  My sister, of course, pulled into the spot first and got on out her car to walk in the store.  The lady from the other car parked elsewhere, but caught up with my sister at the entrance of the store and began to cuss and complain about the parking spot being “stolen.”  Now anyone who knows my sister (lol…if you know me and MY mouth, my sister can be TWICE as bad!) you already know what was about to go down.  Only, suprisingly, my sister was chilling because she wasn’t trying to go to jail or fight Christmas Eve night over some bull.  She tried to walk away, but then the lady called after her…

Idiot Lady:  “You n***ers think you can do anything since Obama got in office!”

Skkkiiiiiiiiirrrrrrt!  Stop the presses!  WTF does Barack have to do with a parking space?!?!

Sister:  “Excuse me?!”

The lady and my sister then pretty much began to argue in the entrance of the store, and all of it was caught on video.  Lots of “nigger” this and “nigger b***h” that followed.  Apparently this lady has been in Anderson her whole life, cause that kind of talk right there would’ve got chick murked quick, fast, and in a hurry where I live (and where I have lived!).  My sister and her bf laughed at the lady’s ignorance and frustration, to which the lady get even more mad and says, “I oughta kick your ass!”  My sis probably said something like, “I doubt it,” and the lady rushed  towards her and pushed her backwards.  My sister said this lady was much taller and heavier that her, so her first thought was “I can’t let this big b***h hit me!” so my sister punched the lady in the face,  grabbed her throat and choked her til she fell to the ground.  Then she proceeded to kick her.  Okay it aint funny but I gotta do this.

Long story short, my sister’s boyfriend pulled her off the lady and the police were called.  Everyone was telling my sis “you’re going to jail!”  “Look at her face!  You’re getting arrested!!!”  The police reviewed the tape, and while my sister did beat the lady’s butt, I guess the law is whoever touches who first, whoever initiates a fight, is the one at fault.  My sis didn’t get arrested and that was that, even though we’re pretty sure that chick will probably try and file charges.  No one likes a public ass whoopin!  Especially not to someone smaller than you.  And apparently, if you’re a backwards, hick-y, mullet wearing A-Town winner (lol), you definitely don’t wanna get taught a lesson by a….gasp….nigger!  To be continued (maybe…..)

Lastly, I never really expect Christmas gifts because I get stuff year round and I usually buy myself the things I want.  Annnnd I’ve been single for years, honey *lol*!  This year, though, I got some cool stuff.  Only a few things, but they were all great.  Candles (I love ‘em and had burned all mine up), cash (who doesn’t love cash?!), a new digital cam (mine had died, and this one’s way flyer!), and some of the most faaaaabulous shoes I could have imagined!  They’re so nice, I don’t think I’ll even be comfortable wearing them!!!  These are definitely Carrie Bradshaw worthy (lol).  I’m sure you’ll see a pic of me in them

Alright lovelies, I’m outta here and headed to the Lord’s House…it’s Sunday!!!  Gotta start ‘09 of in the right mindset, ya know?  Later!

Bah Humbug!

Not really (lol), but now that I’ve got your attention, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!  I was totally not in the spirit, but I’m sure I’ll come around once I go home Christmas Eve to some snow and get to see my neices’ and nephews’ adorable faces!  And I get to kick with the big homie Grandma!!!  If you aint know, she’s my favorite person breathing   Well, her and parents.  Anywhoo…I just went to Toys ‘R Us to buy the kiddies stuff.  Geez!  You can tell I don’t have kids, because it was like going into outer-space.  My neice wanted High School Musical stuff…ok, that was pretty easy.  Though I am mad that they didn’t have any of the lil’ black girl dolls.  She wasn’t even on alot of the HSM3 Paraphanalia.  HATERS!!!  So I bought her a purse and a Corbin Bleu aka Chad doll.  He looks crazy!

My nephew wanted Moon Shoes.  What the hell are moon shoes?!  I found the last pair in the store (whew!) and he better love em.  They some sort of anti-gravity shoes that you jump in.

Looks like a broken arm waiting to happen if you ask me (lol).  But as long as they’re happy!

I wanted to buy so many people so many things, but alas, my pockets are about as long as a 10-inch weave.  So to all of you that I care about, I gift you with love and adoration!    I think that’s gift a-plenty.

What else?  Ummmm, I got a new digital cam (yaaaaay!) so I can go back to being the picture whore that I am come Tuesday when it arrives.  After work, I’m gonna speed home and wait for the fabulous UPS man to bring it then I’m sure I’ll have a full-fledged photo shoot that evening before flying to Indy (lol).  Stay tuuuuned!

P.S.  To the one I pissed off last night, I’m sorrrrrrryyyy!  But let’s be real…drunk driving-BAD IDEA.  Inebriated visits-BAD IDEA.  Me being pissed at you for trying me (’cause I’m pretty sure that’s what the deal was gonna be)-BAD IDEA.  But still, I hate “hurting” people, so I apologize.

I guess all writers have felt like this at one time or another, like “Damn, did I just put ALL my biz out there?!”  I know I’ve written stuff and whoever hears it is like, “I know who this is about!”  Lol.   This is “Pen Just Cries Away” by Eric Roberson.  Love this song and love this artist.  Annnd he’ll be in Atlanta this Friday doing a show.  Whoohoooo!

Cup_Sip_Yep_YUUURRR!

There are a gang of groups who are “on the verge,” but only like 2 that are really on my radar.  One is Rich Girl, who’s currently recording, and um, this is Melrose’s main competition- Electrik Red, signed to Def Jam.  I say main ’cause they’re signed and kinda on the promo trail already, so they’re a half step ahead of Melrose and Rich Girl (in practical terms).  This is called “Drank In My Cup.”  I’ll say this, they’re really cute and snatched than a mug, but uhhhh….yeah, I’ll let yall speak on it.

7 Days

It’s been a week….Monday I was Melrose’in it up with the girls and Adonis.  Tuesday was working/writing/recording at ZAC with The Council (my new writing honeybuns, lol) and HitBoy.  We came up with something crazyyyyy!  Wednesday me and my buddy Crys hit Luckie for Keri Hilson’s bday party.  Funny thing is, we didn’t even see Keri because we were in our own little world @ the bar due to all the drinks being thrown at us.  And I didn’t even get a hangover!  Whooohooo!!!  Chasers (both the pill and the human-kind) are truly the biz.  Lol…fun stuff.  I always have a good time with her.  And him.  Thursday, I went to work, then came home and passed out probably due to the almost nonstop going from this past Saturday.   Caught up on my sleep fo sho!  Today I’m being domestic…washing clothes as we speak, then I’ll wash my hair, paint my toes, blah blaah blaaah and get ready for tonight.  Lebron James is having a party (bday?  who knows…I just got invited, so I’ll do my civic duties and show up ).  Rounding up the gals and yep!  I guess Saturday and Sunday I’ll do the usuals…Uptown, 300.  Pictures from all of these things will be up on Facebook and Myspace, I’m sure.  Since I cannot sing- my voice has decided to take a holiday vacay- I’ve been filling up my nights with social activities.  Let’s hope the voice cooperates next week.  Partying is fun, but uhhhh, yeah.  Got bigger fish to fry and I need the chords for all that.

Question for the fellas.  What’s a gift that a woman could give you that would be really really impressive and cool?  I mean, something that you’d remember and feel special about receiving?  Help a sister out…Christmmas is right ‘round the corner and I’ve got nothing.  The default is, of course, throwing a lil private fashion show (lol) but that’s…that’s an any day thing.  Hellllllppppp!

Lastly, I’ll be uploading video on my “Mylah TV” shortly.  I’ve got some cute stuff, but since my forehead is trying get a freaking starring role in the clips (hahahaa….I guess me+my hair pulled back+video=NOT SO HOT), I’m gonna get some different footage.  But, shortly my dears, I’ll have more to show.  Since Melrose is about to close deals and whatnot.  Laterzzzz!

Who’s the fairest of them all?

I was talking to one of my guys the other day about pretty women in the entertainment biz.  I was telling him that for some reason (I’m not really sure OF the reason), most of the ladies that I think are the hottest are usually not “the prettiest.”  For instance, I think Halle Berry is gorgeous.  Beyonce is a super-bad chick.  But if I were to have a moment of….girl-crush-ness (lol) I wouldn’t pick either one of them.  ???  But a Lindsay Lohan, who is cute, but not…?  I think she’s so fly.  Who knows.  I think I am always more impressed by aura/energy/swag than physical looks.  Bring me a Shemar Moore a** lookin’ dude, and I’ll sooooo go the other way (hahaaa…there are a few exceptions, though.  Have you seen Boris Kodjoe up close?!)  Hey, I’m getting off track here.  One female that is beautiful and had that “thing” about her is J Lo.  Even after all this time, marriage(s), and twins, chick is still hot to death.

Siiiiigh….she’s so beautiful   And no, this isn’t a girl-crush-ness moment!  Just giving credit where credit is due.

I’ve been going through my big book of CDs lately just immersing myself in my favorite music, so I’ll have plenty of flashbacks to post. But this particular song, I didn’t have to re-discover. This is one of my favorites, by one of my favorite songwriters, and I still have it on regular rotation in my ipod.
