It’s My Anniversary!

Well, it’s almost my anniversary for this here blog. July 19th will make it 365 days the themakingsofmylah.com has been going! Yay! It started out as a forum for me to blog and share thoughts on a larger scale than the myspace blogs (who’d have know myspace would be completely dead now?!). The first half-month I got 290 hits, now I’m getting nearly 4000 a month! Yay for that, too :)

I plan to make this blog even bigger, more interesting, and more fun than the previous year. I still don’t wanna stoop down to “celeb gossip”, though I know readership would probably be up, but I will be delving a little deeper this year. I’ve been pretty secretive as of late about what’s going on with me and my situations. It’s just because papers aren’t signed, ink isn’t dry, and I don’t want to hurt people by speaking prematurely. BUT in a few days I think it will be time to shout from the mountain tops what direction life is going in. Just in time for the 1 year anniversary!

So thanks to all who’ve checked me out, who’ve left comments and showed love…I really appreciate it. NO, I REALLLLLLY appreciate you taking interest in this blog and in me. I vow to try and keep you entertained :) Anything you’d like to see upgraded/changed/added? Feel free to let me know. Let’s get this 4k a month up to 5k, shall we? Smooches, dolls!

Love, Mylah

Love, Mylah

I didn’t watch the BET Awards, but…

so I have no witty commentary. But I had to give a hand-clap to LeToya Luckett for rocking my most favorite-est dress in the whole wide world!  Work the Balmain, mama!  The dress excuses those weird cloggy-heels and makes it a A+ regardless!

Oh, and I did watch a little video footage on bet.com. I looooved the O’Jays tribute that Trey Songz, Johnny Gill and Tyrese did. Tyrese is a lightweight monster with that live performance! Hand-clap for that as well!

Jay Z, “D.O.A.”

Yeah, man….it gets no better from me.  He’s my favorite MC.  Deal with it :)   And who’s that on the track!?  NO I.D., of course!  Yup.

Holla Back

Me having fun and doing another REEEEMIIIIIIIX! :) This is for the guys who won’t take “I’m already with someone” for an answer and think that they can woo you with sex/alcohol/their faux-ice (teehee). Yeah, boo, I’m good. Unless you got a cash generating opportunity for a chick. If not, holla back. Consider this a fresh take on “I got a man.”

R.I.P. Jada Justice

in061709_01

The other day I was watching CNN and there was like a 30-second blurb on a missing 2-year-old named Jada Justice from Gary, IN. The story was that her baby-sitter had reported her missing after leaving the child in a car while going inside a store to buy cigarettes and milk. When she returned to the car, she said the child was gone.

Unfortunately, that story was untrue. Turns out little Jada was murdered by that babysitter-who happened to be her cousin- and her boyfriend. Adding to the tragedy of the story, the eff’d up media barely reported anything…perhaps because Jada was Black. (Shaking my head) This is disgusting. Below is the story from the Chicago Sun Times:

BY JON SEIDEL Post-Tribune

The gruesome details of Jada Justice’s death were revealed Friday when prosecutors charged the 2-year-old girl’s cousin and her boyfriend with murder.

Engelica Castillo, 18, and her live-in boyfriend, Tim Tkachik, 23, of Hobart, also are charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent, battery and false informing. Both were being held without bond in the Lake County, Ind., jail.

Jada’s mother, Melissa Swiontek, said Friday that she never thought Castillo or Tkachik would harm her daughter. Prosecutors said Jada’s body was burned, encased in concrete and left in a LaPorte County swamp. “They should have the same fate she had, if you ask me,” Swiontek said.

T. Edward Page, Castillo’s attorney, said his client is devastated by her cousin’s death and distraught because she’s charged with killing her.

Police said Jada was already dead when Castillo, her baby-sitter, reported her missing June 16.

In an interview with police the next day, an officer accused Castillo of lying and held up a picture of Jada. Castillo became angry and tried to hit the officer, according to reports. “God is taking care of her,” Castillo told police. “God is watching over her.”

Tkachik went to a Portage hospital to be treated for burns on June 18, claiming he suffered the injuries when a propane tank blew up, police said.

Tkachik eventually led police to Jada’s body Thursday, according to court documents. Tkachik told police that Castillo spanked and beat Jada repeatedly on June 13, causing the girl to hit her head on a table, according to court documents. At one point, Tkachik told police, he tried to stop Castillo, but when he couldn’t, he went to another room to watch TV. That night, while they were on their way to buy heroin, the couple realized that Jada was dead.

Police said the couple returned to their home and put Jada’s body into garbage bags. The next morning, they allegedly tried to burn the body. When that didn’t work, the documents say, Tkachik dumped Jada’s body in a tub and poured concrete over it. The couple drove to a swamp in LaPorte, where they dumped the concrete slab, the documents said. Then they returned home, took some heroin, and decided to report Justice’s abduction the next day.

Like I said, the crime is disgusting and the lack of coverage is disgusting. I could really go in about this, but….man, I don’t even feel like it. Something similar to this happened to a young cousin of mine in TX…she was reported missing and later found, beaten and raped, drowned in a lake. The media completely glossed over it. At times I think racism is much better, but situations like this let me know that at the end of the day…I guess it aint. Prayers and sympathy go out to Jada’s family.

R.I.P. MJ

Mj872

I simply can’t, and won’t go into great detail about my feelings on the passing of Michael Jackson. I’ll just say that point blank, he was the best to ever do this entertainment thing. There was never a brighter star, and I’m not so sure that there ever will be. His influence was so broad and far reaching, he WAS pop culture. And I bet that pretty much every artist, producer, dancer, entertainment head 40 and under was heavily (or even minutely) inspired and touched by him in some way. Not bad for an Indiana boy! I wasn’t the biggest MJ fan there is, but I definitely always held tremendous respect for him and what he meant to the world. I’m sure he and God are standing face to face and he’s no longer dealing with the trouble of this world.

Michael, you’ll be missed.

“Precious”

Oh, I cannot WAIT until November to see this movie!

NEW HEAT! “Kinda Like A Big Deal”

Dammit, man! This damn Kanye is such a beast. I don’t care what nobody says, dude makes/creates hits. This is the Clipse’s new single, “Kinda Like A Big Deal” featuring (and produced by) Kanye West. Summer anthem for sure.

3 Times Dope

Today I’m giving 3 Dope Girl Fresh looks for the price of one :) These ladies are 3 of my favorite people to watch…each very different, but each so effortlessly fly. Each I see a bit of myself in. Let’s go Zoe, Erykah, and Halle.

Zoe Kravitz channeling her dad, perhaps?

I love her laid back and super individual approach to fashion. She doesn’t do a lot of makeup, she doesn’t show tons of skin, her style is quirky, and she just has that extra extra cool thing going on about her, which makes her sexy. Simply LUV this chick. Erykah and Halle after the cut…

Daddy, you the best!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all the wonderful men out there who take care of their chil’ren.  Especially MY daddy!  It takes a special kinda man to take his daughters and face raising them alone…all because he wanted to make sure they were cared for correctly.  Most people I know have the story of “my moms raised me alone and I didn’t know my pops.”  Well, my story was different.  My Dad was the main care giver.  Of course my Grandparents and, after awhile, my step-mom helped, but for the most part, I looked at my Dad a THE parent.  He filled both roles.  He tried to comb me and my sister’s hair (lol), we ate brownies for dinner (yessss!) and he let me be the rough and tumble tomboy I was…playing basketball with me and even showing me how to shoot a rifle (take a mental note on that suckas! :) ).  When I got older, he had to buy that first bra, have the sex talk with me, he encouraged my academics as well as athletics, and made sure I knew how to conduct myself as a lady without being weak and naive.  I get a lot of my mannerisms and personality AKA swag from my Daddy.  His cool demeanor, his love of music, his intelligence, his perfect smile (lol…thanks for that one!).  We even have identical birth marks and 3 small moles under our eyes!  Yep, I’m a Daddy’s girl and so proud of it!!!

So in case you didn’t know Daddy, and I know that you do, I LOVE YOU MORE THAN I COULD EVER EXPRESS AND YOU ARE MY STANDARD AS FAR AS MEN GO!  *Cue the Beyonce “Daddy” song*
