Eureka!

Soooo, after swimming around in a sea of “I don’t knows” I finally think I figured out the shell of my project. What I want it to be, conceptually. I don’t know if this means anything to you (lol), but it feels great to me. To have a direction in which to shoot is a good ‘ole thang.

I’ll be doing another teaser type situation for you guys while waiting til a complete thing in 2011. Until then, let’s hope this “Anti Social” joint gets a real push soon and I’m gonna keep working on getting some placements popping.

I’m at a weird/tough/spacey point in my life (creatively) and my focus has been kinda off, but even though it’s taking more time than I’d like, I’m getting a clearer picture of how things need to go and will go. Hallelujah :)

Thanks to all you guys who are still rooting for ya girl…I TRULY appreciate it. You don’t even know. Mmkay, smooches!

What is that- velvet?

What’s better that glowing, smooth, soft skin? Not too many things, especially in the summertime! I’m always looking for a good exfoliant and if if leaves me smelling scrumptious, that’s icing on the cake :)

Well, my boyfriend did an event in New Orleans with Tracey Mourning & she gave him some goodies from her GODDESS, SOULMATE, MOTHER, FRIEND Intense Body Moisturizing Collection (launched February of this year) to give to me.

And the verdict? I love it! Not only does it leave my skin very, VERY soft and moisturized, but it smells yummy and the scent lasts all day…not like cheap fragrances that fade away after a few hours. Each of the 4 “scents” have a different feel to them.

Unmistakably elegant, the GODDESS blend intermingles an abundance of Gardenia, Jasmine, and Orange Blossoms, with supporting notes of Clove Bud, Pimento Berry, Musk, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Haitian Vetiver.
Complex like our closest companion, the SOULMATE blend boasts a seductive floral union of sweet Imperial Violet, Lilac and Wild Rose, including middle notes of Lavender, Heather, Angelica, and Sweet Fennel. The MOTHER blend incites a strong and nurturing character found distinctly in Dune Rose, Amber and Musk ingredients to provide a sense of a clean, woodsy earth but with a feminine touch. Easily becoming your skins best friend, the FRIEND blend boasts a combo mix of Creamy Coconut, Bourbon, and Aragon Oil, to name a few.

I have a gift set of the Body Scrub, the Body Lotion, and the Body Oil.

I haven’t used the scrub yet, but I intend to tomorrow morning. I like to use scrubs while I’m dry (to REALLY get the dead skin off!) and then get in the shower. I’m betting I’m going to like it better than the St. Ives brand I’ve been using :) . The products range in price from $30-$48, or you can buy a set of 3 (the scrub, lotion & oil) for $140. It’s worth the money because the quality really is there.

So where do you get yours, you ask? Click HERE to go to Tracey’s site and order products. You can also find out what stores Tracey’s collection is in if you live in Florida or New York.

Cuteness: “Your Love” x Nicki Minaj

I like this….and I didn’t really care for the song. A good visual always helps that situation, though. Let’s hope Kimmy doesn’t watch this! It will just give her even more to be mad about. Lol.

Confessions

So Lindsay has to report to jail today. Yiiiikes. She really used to be someone I really liked- not saying I no longer like her. She’s just somehow fallen down that slippery Hollywood slope. But then again, she was making ish pretty plain to us some time ago….

I hope she can pull it together…I’m rooting for her :)

“Love All Over Me” x Monica

Love this song and love the visual as well! Great job, Monica, JD, Cristyle and Bryan :)

Reminisce….

iTunes shuffle is always a good way to bring back random memories and thoughts because a song you may not have listened to in forever will come on. And this song DEFINITELY took me back! Back to when I was an insane Usher fanatic!!! I had every poster, CD, CD single, DVD (or was it VHS?)….I’d even tape every performance he did on television. My dad thought I had a problem (lol).

Anyway, this is one of my faves by him that popped up on my shuffle and made me remember that concert tape I bought. Who knows where that thing is now? :)

The Ultimate Catch

So it seems a lot of people (black women) are up in arms after watching the premiere of Chad Ochocinco’s reality dating show The Ultimate Catch on Sunday. The gripe? He picked all “white” girls. I paid close attention to the show….okay, I’m lying. I watched like 12 minutes of it and then came downstairs to stare at my walls in silence (haha), but from what I did catch, and what I’ve heard or read on Twitter, there were 85 girls to choose from and in the end, he picked 17 to come live in the house and participate in the show. 3 of which were black. Hmmmm….okay. Whatever. I don’t really feel any way about that. If that’s his preference, hey.

I forced myself to watch the show online just now and here are a couple of points I did recognize and give a side-eye to.

1) Almost all the girls that he picked to go into the house were the same chick. I mean, Latina, dark hair, video vixenish look. Pretty, but typical and generic. But once again, if that’s his cup o’tea….

Why do I suddenly want to hear R Kelly’s “Same Girl?”

2) The white girls he picked looked….old. Now THAT, I didn’t get. I bet they were all younger than me, too (teehee).

3) Then there were the 3 black girls he picked…oh…how shall I say….they were also typical of reality shows. Well, Jasmine was. Add to that abysmal wigs (honey, synthetic lace fronts are a serious flag on the play!),

attitude for days, and of course- hella loud and catty. I mean, really?! Are we fighting over a bed within minutes of being in the house. Oh my! I don’t know the quality of the other black ladies who were in the group of 85, but JEEEESUS if he didn’t pick characters to come in the house! Oh, wait…this is reality tv….which means it’s not exactly all real. Oh yeah, I should know this (lol). I just wish that the one’s he DID pick didn’t make me wish he hadn’t picked any. I’m tired of seeing this chick on tv…and in life. But luckily Tiphani was extra cute and seemed like a great girl. Plus she’s an athlete, so that’s always good. I like her. She’s the Great Black Hope (LOL).

I don’t know if I’ll be paying a lot of attention to this show, but I don’t think my sisters should get too worked up over it. After all, like Jay Z said, “IT’S ONLY ENTERTAINMENT!”

This song just makes me smile :)

What’s it worth to you?

I got an email today from an aspiring artist asking me to ask a certain famous person that I know if they would come do a video with them. They started the convo off with, “Do you have a contact for him or a booking person’s contact?” I do…and so asked, just for clarity’s sake (and a little bit of s & g’s), “So when you say you want to book him, you mean a paid appearance, correct?”

I hoped for the right response. I hoped that since this person is aspiring (as am I) that they understand a little about business and know that even though music is fun and fulfilling and better than being chained to a desk, if you REALLY want to do it, it’s a job. Work should equal pay, no? People don’t clock into office jobs “for the love.”

But noooo…I got hit with the okey doke. This is paraphrased: “Well, I’m indie and anything that has to be paid for comes out of my own pocket! I’m asking artist to artist…he’ll be in my town and is booked for 3 other things that day, so if he has like a 25 minute break, could he come down here and make a cameo appearance. He knows me…I stood next to him at a video shoot in 2005 in Atlanta.”

Hol’ up, hol’ up, hol’ up. Lemme get this right. He has a jam packed schedule that day, and you think if he gets a down minute, he wants to do something else…for free…for someone he’s not affiliated with…for something that doesn’t “help” him….for something unpaid…for someone he stood next to in ‘05. I’m supposed to- with a straight face- make this request? So I can be looked at like I’m crazy?? Riiiiiiiiiiight.

WHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY do people think that’s how it works!!!????!!! Aren’t we all trying to make money? From the Beyonces down to the little ole aspiring performers like myself, we should always be trying to make strategic (and financially rewarding) decisions for our careers. If I wanted someone to feature or show up for something I was doing and I had money to pay, I’d offer to pay. If I didn’t have cash, use the barter system…make it worth their while somehow (link them with someone you know that maybe they haven’t worked with, let them know your awesome plans to launch your indie shit, etc.) And if I had neither, well then, I guess my focus would be to create that buzz that makes the people want to see what you’re about. Don’t just say, “Hey Kanye! I think you should come be in my video cause that would be cool!” (I don’t know Kanye, by the way). Even if you worked in an office setting and you perhaps wanted the company to fund a grand idea you had…you wouldn’t go to the head honchos and say, “Hey, I need a half milli to get this thing up and running!” and have no type of presentation, plan, facts, or incentive to back up that request. You’d get boo’d out of the office. Think about it.

Siiiiiigh. People always want something for nothing. This has happened more times than I can think of and I’ve never understood it yet. People want hooks, people want you to write a million songs for their artist, people want you to travel out of state, on your dime, to sing at things…I haven’t ever had the audacity to ask for something when I knew I had zero to offer back. Maybe I’m trippin’.

P.S. Dear Artist, if you’re reading this, I’m not trying to shit on you. But I do hope you’re gaining a little insight. I had/have people who hip me to game, so I’m spreading the wealth :)
